Milan meets Minimalism: Jil Sander MFW A/W 19 collection

Day one of Milan Fashion Week A/W 19 is over but we can’t seem to get over Jil Sander’s Ready-to-Wear Fall 2019 collection.

Jil Sander’s Creative Directors Luke and Lucie Meier gifted us with sophisticated poetry about minimalism, in response to a different approach from other designers, who showcased a (un)usual mix of decorations and looks ready to be posted on social media.

The luxury fashion company established in 1973 kept its essential yet modern vision alive, with a contemporary code. A rewriting of the brands iconic DNA in terms of modernity, sophistication, elegance, purity, high-quality tailoring. Towards the future.

Our team loved the sharply silent essence staged throughout the entire collection because every piece and look was a declaration of pure minimalism and contemporary dynamism.

Yes, less is really more!

The music and the runway perfectly reflected the vibe: a calm, poetic yet conceptual soundtrack performed by a beautiful female artist singing and playing the cello, in a rigorous space discretely embellished with plants.

The models were embracing natural makeup and the best essential silhouettes. Contemporary designs, discrete volumes, and sharp cuts symbolized the perfect duality between masculine and feminine, in the details and in the overall silhouettes. Male shirt classic and mandarin collars blended with female stand, round, and V-neck ones, jacket openings, with the right lapel positioned over the left one, and vice-versa.

Clean lines, rigorous cuts interweaved with rounder shapes highlighted by impeccable tailoring and seams, elongated essential tunics over wide-leg pants, long straight dresses, semi-fitted belted coats to focus on the female waistline, plus oversize outerwear.

Slight eastern Jap references characterized by sophisticated heron prints, second skin-tabi-like shoes and subtle elegance of the attitude.

We also enjoyed the harmonious contrast between wool, silk knit fabrics and colour tones, from white to black, from light mint to green forest, from mustard yellow to pale sand hues.

Strength plus lightness, construction plus deconstruction at its best, an (extra)ordinary collection of poetic simplicity and cosy comfort as a luxurious signature.

Jil Sander never ceases to be timeless and different and we are glad to share with you our appreciation for her minimalism!
